Partying NZ 7s side stranded in Nairobi

first_img0Shares0000NAIROBI, Kenya, October 2 – New Zealand side Metro Auckland players are still in the country four days after the end of Safaricom 7s amidst claims Nairobi night life captivated them to the extent they missed their flight out.Kenya Rugby Union boss Mwangi Muthee confirmed to Capital Sport Thursday 11 players from one of the 13 invited international teams for the 19th edition of the event are still holed up in the capital. “Yes they are still in Nairobi and it’s very unfortunate they are stranded. But it’s not the Union’s fault because we gave every team return tickets.“All teams were supposed to leave on Sunday and that’s what the rest did except the New Zealand boys who wanted to enjoy Nairobi after their coach, physio and one player left on Sunday,” Muthee told.He added, “We cannot neglect them even though it’s very costly to cater the team who are in a five star hotel in Nairobi and bearing its summer time in Auckland, it’s difficult to get flights since they were to connect via Dubai. “The Union is working round the clock to ensure the players depart tonight because we could not go against the travel agents itinerary,” he explained. One of the players, former All Blacks Sevens star Rocky Khan who captained the Metro, posted a tweet to the IRB Sevens and Emirates Airlines, pleading for help.“Kenya Rugby Union flew us over here to play and now aren’t flying us back home to NZ,” he wrote. “Help?” the tweet read.Luke Masirewa, Atu Masirewa and Mason Walker are other ex-All Blacks players in the squad with Kylem O’Donnell, Akira Mako, Samuel Franklin, Tain Lam, Phoenix Hunapo, Leif Schwenke, Adam McGarvey and Akulia Rokolisoa completing the line-up.It is reported the New Zealanders patronised a popular night spot and enjoyed the night away, missing their check-out time to the airport in a ringing endorsement to Nairobi’s party scene.0Shares0000(Visited 1 times, 1 visits today)last_img read more

Trial hears DNA of accused letterbomber found on evidence from two blast

first_imgWINNIPEG – An RCMP forensic specialist says DNA from a Winnipeg man accused of sending letter bombs matched samples taken at two blast sites.Guido Amsel has pleaded not guilty to five counts of attempted murder and to explosives-related charges. He is accused of sending letter bombs to his former wife and two Winnipeg law offices where, in one case, a lawyer was seriously injured.Marc Lett told Amsel’s trial that two blood samples obtained from Amsel contained DNA which matched samples taken from evidence at the office where Maria Mitousis worked.Mitousis, who had represented Amsel’s ex-wife in a lawsuit, lost a hand when a letter bomb sent to her went off in July 2015.Lett said Amsel’s DNA also matched samples taken after a blast at his former wife’s home in December 2013.Lett testified a sample from the outside zipper area of an orange-and-purple pouch found in Mitousis’s office contained her DNA and that of an unknown male.He said there is only a one in 1.2 quintillion chance that the unknown DNA that matched Amsel came from a different Caucasian male.Lett also told court that a charred piece of string from the blast crater of the 2013 explosion at the home of Amsel’s ex-wife had three DNA profiles. One of them matched Amsel’s and the other two were too weak to make a match. The estimated probability of the positive match being with another Caucasian male is one in 2.6 trillion, Lett said.Court heard DNA could not be extracted from or was too weak for analysis on some of the other evidence seized by investigators in 2013 and 2015.On Monday, a forensic chemist testified that an explosive substance which can be made from household ingredients was found at the three locations where letter bombs were sent in 2015.Nigel Hearns said triacetone triperoxide, known as TATP, is an explosive found in acts of international terrorism and was the only substance found at the three scenes. The trial has previously heard that the Amsels had been in a bitter divorce battle that dragged on for years. A lawsuit had been filed over the autobody shop they co-owned.(CTV Winnipeg, The Canadian Press)last_img read more

Data from the U.S. Census Bureau indicates that the homeownership rate nationwide is 64.8%, slowly reversing a downward trend that started in 2004. Despite these recent gains, homeownership is still out of reach for many people. One of the main reasons for this is that wages haven’t kept pace with soaring home prices, and many people are priced out of the real estate market.Fortunately, some parts of the U.S. are friendlier to potential homebuyers’ wallets than others. Our latest visualization illustrates the salary that a household needs to make in order to buy a median-priced home in the 50 largest metro areas in the U.S. KUSI Newsroom, Posted: April 22, 2019 Updated: 9:16 PM KUSI Newsroom April 22, 2019 Study finds annual salary needed to afford a house in 50 largest U.S. cities The data for this visualization comes from the mortgage information site HSH Associates. In conducting their analysis, HSH compiled median-home price data from the National Association of Realtors, national mortgage rate data from Freddie Mac and the Mortgage Bankers Association of America, and property tax and homeowner’s insurance costs data to determine the annual salary it takes to afford a home (including principal, interest, property tax and homeowner’s insurance, or PITI) in the nation’s 50 largest metropolitan areas. The analysis also assumed a down payment of 20%.The Top 5 Metro Areas With the Highest Salary Required for Buying a Home1. San Jose, CA – $254,835.732. San Francisco,CA – $198,978.013. San Diego, CA – $131,640.794. Los Angeles, CA – $123,156.015. Boston, MA – $106,789.93The Bottom 5 Metro Areas With the Lowest Salary Required for Buying a Home1. Pittsburgh, PA – $37,659.862. Cleveland, OH – $40,437.723. Oklahoma City, OK – $41,335.414. Memphis, TN – $41,400.935. Indianapolis, IN – $42,288.92In general, metro areas in the Midwest and the South require lower salaries than metro areas on the West Coast and the East Coast. The most expensive metros are located in California, especially near Silicon Valley. For example, San Jose requires the highest salary ($254,835.73) for a median-priced home and San Francisco requires the second-highest salary ($198,978.01). Metros in the Northeast, like Boston ($106,789.93) and New York ($105,684.33) are similarly expensive. On the flip side, Pittsburgh only requires a salary of $37,659.86 to buy a median-priced home. Metro areas like Memphis ($41,400.93) and Oklahoma City ($41,335.41) require about one-sixth the salary required in San Jose.HSH notes that when looking at the nation overall, you would need to earn $61,453 in order to buy a home. However, 24 of the largest 50 metro areas require a higher salary to make it affordable. It’s also worth noting that even within metro areas, home prices and salaries can differ by zip code or neighborhood, so final costs could vary even more. Overall, when deciding where to buy a home or look for a job, taking the area’s salaries and housing costs into consideration becomes even more important. Trump sends Congress immigration legislation priorities

first_imgDonald TrumpUS president Donald Trump sent Congress his immigration legislation priorities Sunday, including building a controversial border wall, speeding up deportations and dramatically increasing the number of officials involved in enforcement. The list, which also includes preventing immigrants from sponsoring their extended families to move to the US, drew immediate fire from Democratic leaders in Congress, who said it goes “far beyond what is reasonable.”The administration tied its priorities to Democrats’ desire to provide legal protection to some 690,000 immigrants known as “Dreamers” who came to the country illegally as children and were covered by an amnesty by former president Barack Obama that Trump scrapped last month.”These findings outline reforms that must be included as part of any legislation addressing the status of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients,” Trump wrote in a letter to Congress accompanying the list, using the official name for the amnesty order. The White House list is topped by “border security,” a category that includes building a massive wall on the southern US border that Trump promised would be paid for by Mexico, which has said it will not do so.Trump also wants to dramatically ramp up the number of officials involved in enforcement, hiring an additional 10,000 Immigrations and Customs Enforcement officers and 1,000 attorneys, 370 immigration judges and 300 federal prosecutors. And he hopes to prevent immigrants from sponsoring extended family members to move to the US, limiting such green cards to spouses and children, as well as to close “loopholes” that prevent the deportation of children who enter the country illegally. The list includes financially targeting “sanctuary cities” that have resisted the Trump administration’s efforts to crack down on illegal immigrants.- Criticism from Democrats -“The administration proposes blocking sanctuary cities from receiving certain grants or cooperative agreements administered or awarded by the Departments of Justice and Homeland Security,” it said.Other proposals include cracking down on people who overstay visas, restricting asylum and expanding criteria that would make someone inadmissible to the US.Trump’s list was criticized by Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi, the respective Democratic leaders in the Senate and House.”This proposal fails to represent any attempt at compromise,” the legislators said in a joint statement.”The list includes the wall, which was explicitly ruled out of the negotiations. If the president was serious about protecting the Dreamers, his staff has not made a good faith effort to do so.”The president has previously insisted the wall will go ahead and that he wants “massive border security” in exchange for a deal on DACA protections.Trump has made toughening immigration regulations a central part of his first year in office, also issuing several versions of a controversial travel ban that has been criticized for targeting Muslim-majority countries and subject to numerous legal challenges. The latest version, which was unveiled last month, bans citizens of Chad, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Syria and Yemen from entering the US.Also suspended are certain Venezuelan government officials and their families, due to what the US called poor security and a lack of cooperation with American authorities.last_img read more

Should I Hire a Web Development Firm or a Staffer to Build

first_img min read Problem Solvers with Jason Feifer Opinions expressed by Entrepreneur contributors are their own. January 24, 2014 Option One: Hiring a web development companyThere is no shortage of web development companies and pricing structures will vary greatly. Some web development companies may offer an hourly price, while others will guarantee a project-based price. Although project-based pricing provides for an estimate of the total cost, it is really just that — an estimate. Project-based pricing largely depends on the scope of work and in many instances that can easily change and is subject to interpretation. You will want to make sure that you have a very detailed and clear scope of work with a wire-frame for all of the pages necessary. Many web development companies will provide an overview of the scope with a few pages to illustrate a specific template to follow. That’s not sufficient. Keep in mind that web development companies have other clients beside you and your project will not be the center of their attention at all times.Despite the drawbacks with a web development company, there are certain benefits. Depending on your project, you might pay less money to a company than by hiring someone internally and paying them a salary with benefits. Second, there’s typically less risk. You have a signed contract with a company that is being held accountable for the scope of work. They are bound by the terms of the agreement and their reputation to complete the work and have resources to fulfill their commitments.Related: 5 Tips for Hiring a Great Web DeveloperOption Two: Hiring a stafferIf you’re looking to hire, know that qualified individuals don’t often market themselves the same way companies do. You’re going to have to do a lot of leg-work in the form of networking with friends and friends of friends as well as getting yourself up to speed with the latest web development changes. This is going to be time consuming and still will not help you easily distinguish between a great web developer and an average one. Resumes and portfolios of work provide a starting point, but it is by no means an acceptable way to evaluate their ability to code. In addition, you will want to make sure you are hiring a web developer who has an understanding of interactive design. Many developers aren’t designers and if you can only afford one person, you’ll need someone who can do both. If not, you’ll need to hire a designer as well. You need to test their ability to code in your framework as well as their capability to solve problems and meet deadlines. You might consider a contract period, where you work with the candidate on a freelance basis. This can serve as an evaluation period to see if they meet the qualifications. One drawback to hiring is potential flight-risk since when you only have one developer, you don’t have the same security that you do when you hire a web development company.Although there are some drawbacks to hiring internally, I believe it is still the best long-term solution if you plan on building a long-standing company. If you find the right web developer, you can grow the company together and hire others to build a team. Also, if you want to gain the attraction of investors and other companies, they will want to know that there is a full-time engineering team working on the product.Related: How to Find Great Candidates by Looking Past the Obvious Hear from business owners and CEOs who went through a crippling business problem and came out the other side bigger and stronger.
